HARDCASE 2.0 is complete!
Hello, everyone, and welcome to a big day: the full, final release of HARDCASE!
I wrote this game in March, and it was driven by the most appropriate motivations possible: that deeply 2024 combination of being flat broke and knowing the same is true for everyone I know right now. Space poverty is more fun to talk about than real-life poverty, but the supermassive gravity of capitalism is something that feels like it's dragging down the whole world in this moment. HARDCASE is an homage to the absurd, sweaty, awful, interconnected present we all currently inhabit, and the little ways we try to stay sane during it all.
That's enough philosophizing - I'll tell you what's new in HARDCASE 2.0!
- Full layout by Ida Ailes, responsible for the cover art (and also the layout on my previous Golden Isles work)
- Doubled page count, from 12 to 24
- An explanation of play, for those unfamiliar with solo RPGs
- Expanded Opposition (18 sample abilities)
- Expanded Conditions (including treatment and optional severity mechanics)
- 6 Alternate Labels, for when you get tired of the core set
- A new way to get paid: Deliveries!
- Cybernetic implants to improve your HC
- Subcontractors to bring along on the job - don't get them killed!
- Retirement, for your HC's dreams of getting out
- Drugs, 12 handy products to use and abuse
- Psychic Powers, a rare boon for those who blow up their brains
- 4 new Online Servers and the 'Moodmode' status system
- A new Online game: CONQUEROR, full of dying social scenes
- 6 Spaceports, destinations across the Heliopause-controlled solar system
- Rules for having your own Ship and running cargo across the system
- 6 new Faces, people outside Basement Station who cast long shadows
- Events, 36 shake-ups to make things weirder (or just plain worse!)
- Endings, 36 bad ways for your HC to go (other than just dropping dead)
